The quarterly meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima, was held on September 25, 2026, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, DDMA Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, NCS. The meeting reviewed the post-monsoon disaster situation, including damages to roads and other infrastructure, relief measures, preparedness and departmental response.
On road damages, the PWD R&B official informed that estimates and repair proposals have been submitted to the State Government and the concerned Central Ministries for approval for several damaged roads.
It was informed that bituminous work is expected to begin after the monsoon from Jotsoma Bypass to Lerie Gate. Road damages were reported at Jotsoma Bypass, the Kigwema-Chakhabama stretch and at a 100-metre section near Zaru Bridge, for which a repair proposal has been submitted and approval is awaited. Regarding the sinking portion of the road at Phesama along the National Highway, it was informed that NHIDCL work is scheduled to commence from Monday, with the affected stretch expected to be made motorable by the latter part of November.
The Traffic Police official informed the meeting that the sinking of the T. Khel Model Road has resulted in increased traffic congestion in Kohima town. The official also highlighted the presence of potholes in several locations following the monsoon. The road near the BSF camp, which is maintained by NHIDCL, was also discussed in view of the need for improvement.

The Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (V&AH) Department informed that six cases related to African Swine Fever (ASF) had been reported under disaster-related circumstances and that the affected cases did not have insurance coverage. It was also informed that ASF vaccines are currently under trial. The officials further stressed on the need of awareness of the insurance verification process through photographs.
The Forest Department informed that the possibility of wild elephant movement in the district could not be ruled out. The issue of wild boar affecting farmers in Kidima village was also discussed.
The Home Guards and Civil Defence Department informed that training had been conducted and personnel were prepared to respond during disasters. The need to ensure readiness, particularly for fire-related emergencies during dry season, was emphasised. Matters relating to SDRF relief were also discussed.
The meeting also reviewed water supply and power-related concerns. The PHED informed about disruption in piped water distribution at Aradura water tank. The Power Department was requested to look into complaints concerning the high-tension line at Jakhama, which falls under the Transmission and Generation Division.
The meeting also discussed the updation of the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP), and the India Disaster Resource Network (IDRN), with concerned departments directed to take necessary follow-up action.
