Akehda Amulung, Kiphire, Nagaland, organised an inaugural Beekeeping Training Programme for Livelihood Promotion at Shishimi Village, Kiphire District on September 26. The programme was funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC)
The programme was moderated by Irothe T Sangtam, CEO, Akehda Amulung.
The programme began with an invocation led by Pastor SVBL. Village Council Chairman (VCC), Shishimi, delivered the welcome note and welcomed the team from Akehda Amulung. He expressed the village’s positive response to the programme and said that the village looks forward to a long-term journey with the organisation. He also noted that this was the first training programme of its kind by any organization in the village and would become an important part of the village’s history.
In his speech, Longtili C Sangtam, founder of Akehda Amulung, expressed gratitude to the Village Council, Church, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and the people of Shishimi for their participation. He said that their presence showed their commitment to learning and improving their livelihoods.
He stated that beekeeping has the potential to contribute to the local economy and encouraged the beneficiaries to make full use of the training opportunity. He assured that Akehda Amulung would continue to support the beneficiaries, including assistance in marketing their products.
He further described beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood activity and encouraged the community to work together.

He expressed hope that the beneficiaries would become self-reliant through the project and take beekeeping as a new form of entrepreneurship and an additional source of income. He also expressed confidence in Irothe T Sangtam for leading the project and extended gratitude to the North Eastern Council (NEC) for supporting the initiative.
Head GB of Shishimi Village also thanked Akehda Amulung for bringing the initiative to the village. He said that Shishimi is already known for its traditional basket making and expressed hope that beekeeping and honey production would become another identity of the village. He assured the full support and cooperation of the village for the successful implementation of the programme.
A briefing on beekeeping and its importance as a livelihood activity was given by Zukhathong N. The session covered the basic aspects of beekeeping, including bee colonies, hive management, honey production, and the importance of proper care and handling of bees. The participants were also introduced to the potential of beekeeping as a sustainable source of income.
Following the formal programme, a practical demonstration on beekeeping was conducted, allowing the participants to gain a better understanding of the practical methods involved in bee rearing and hive management.
