Minister for Health & Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak on Wednesday inspected the ongoing construction of the Mon Medical College (MMC) and directed the executing agency to expedite the remaining works to ensure timely completion of the project.
The inspection team comprised Commissioner & Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Kevileno Angami; Secretary, H&FW, S Tainiu Khiam; Principal Director Dr Keveduyi Theyo; Joint Director Dr Kika Longkumer; and Executive Engineer, Medical Engineering Division, Er Therouovituo Pienyu.
During the inspection, the team visited various facilities within the medical college campus, including the proposed water source, helipad and academic, residential and support infrastructure.
Addressing officials, Paiwang stressed that the District Hospital, designated as the teaching hospital for Mon Medical College, must be equipped with all infrastructure, facilities and services required of a teaching institution.
He emphasised that there should be no shortage of essential facilities so that the hospital is fully prepared to support both medical education and quality patient care.
The Minister directed the executing agency to accelerate the remaining construction works, stating that with the working season already underway, the project should progress without further delay. He also assured the department and contractor of the State Government’s full support for timely completion.

Executive Engineer Er Therouovituo Pienyu informed the team that around 65 per cent of the project had been completed. He said the project had faced delays due to the limited working season, prolonged adverse weather conditions and devastating landslides in Mon district, which disrupted the transportation of construction materials for more than two months.
In view of the delays, the contractor has sought an extension of approximately eight months for completion of the project.

Major structures currently under construction include the medical college and administrative blocks, boys’ and girls’ hostels, residences for the Dean and Medical Superintendent, staff quarters and the autopsy block. The indoor sports complex, nursing college and guest house are nearing completion.
Following the inspection, the visiting team expressed satisfaction with the quality of workmanship and the overall progress of the project.
The team also visited District Hospital, Mon, where the Chief Medical Officer briefed the delegation on healthcare services in the district and the ongoing activities of the department.
Later, the Minister and his team held a meeting with representatives of the Mon Village Council and landowners in the presence of officials from the engineering wing. The meeting discussed matters relating to the medical college project.
