The All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens’ Forum (ANSASCF), Pughoboto, observed the International Day of Older Persons 2026 with a programme at Pughoboto Town Hall in Zunheboto district on the theme, “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”
President of the Senior Citizen Association Nagaland (SCAN), Dr I Pihoto Khala, attended the programme as chief guest and delivered the message for the day.
Speaking on the theme, Dr Khala, referring to Proverbs 16:31 and Psalms 92:14, said old age should not be considered a useless phase of life. He said that despite rapid advances in technology and artificial intelligence, the wisdom and practical experience of the older generation could not be substituted.
He urged senior citizens to take pride in their age and experience and not feel ashamed of growing older.
Dr Khala also encouraged them to support and encourage one another and serve as a source of encouragement to the younger generation.

Retired additional director of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Nagaland, Dr Atoshe Kiba, spoke on the importance of preventive healthcare among older persons. He advised them to undergo regular health check-ups, maintain a balanced diet and remain physically and socially active.
Demonstrating some simple exercises for healthy living, Dr Kiba also urged families to pay greater attention to the health and emotional well-being of elderly members.
Former principal of State College of Teachers Education and ANSASCF executive member Sukhavi Swu felicitated senior citizens of the area during the programme.
ANSASCF general secretary, Shivito Wotsa chaired the programme, which was attended by senior citizens and members of the forum, while retired deputy director of the Agriculture Department, Inavi Swu, delivered the vote of thanks. Mishilimi enthralled the gathering with a special number.
The event was held for the first time in Sumi Aphuyemi area.
