The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Elders Council on Thursday celebrated the 36th United Nations International Day of Older Persons at the Kohima Division conference hall.
Speaking as the main speaker, H Chuba Chang, Working President of NPF said that a society that does not respect its elders has no future. He stated that age should not matter but the mind should remain fresh. He said there is a need to recognize the contributions of elders as they are the builders of present society.
He maintained that older persons should not be discouraged but should continue their efforts to build a better society, stating that good things do not happen by strength but by wisdom. He urged every older person to continue to contribute their best.
Delivering his address, Kruzakie, Senior Vice President and Central Office Bearer (CoB) in-charge, said the day is meant to recognise the contributions of elders in society. He appreciated Chief Minister & President NPF, Neiphiu Rio for recognising the elders, noting that elders preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Nagas that has been passed on to generations.

He said the modern generation should know and appreciate the contributions of the older generation, adding that elders have collectively contributed to building society. He urged the elders to share their wisdom for the growth and prosperity of the party and society, stating that “the way we treat our elders reflects our society”.
Akho Leyri, Vice President (Admin), who also spoke on the occasion, stressed the importance of the elders’ contribution towards the growth of the party and called upon the members to build the Council to greater heights.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Nungsangninba, Chairman of the Elders Council. P Shing Khiam, Vice Chairman of the Elders Council, delivered the welcome address, while Suosahie Sachu, Treasurer, invoked God’s blessings and T Yangyam Phom, Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
