5 NPP MLAs merge with NPF in Nagaland

In a significant political development in Nagaland, five MLAs of National People’s Party (NPP) has merged with the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) on Thursday.

According to a notification issued by Nagaland Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has declared the merger of five Members of National People’s Party (NPP) with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) formally to the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly with effect from October 1, 2026, in accordance with the provision of paragraph 4 (2) of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of India and in consonance with The Members of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on Ground of Defection) Rules, 2019.

The NPP MLAs are A Nyannyei Konyak of 48-Moka A/C; Nuklutoshi of 22-Arkakong A/C; C Kipili Sangtam of 59-Seyochung Sitimi A/C; Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso of 9-Kohima Town A/C; and Benei M Lamthiu of 57-Thonoknyu A/C.

Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front today welcomed the merger of all five elected members of the National People’s Party (NPP) of the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly into its fold. The merger took place at Dimapur in the presence of Chief Minister and NPF President, Neiphiu Rio, Adviser & Secretary General, NPF, Achumbemo Kikon and other senior leaders of the party.

The five legislators later paraded before the Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly and submitted all relevant documents pertaining to their merger.

The five MLAs stated that they have merged voluntarily with the regional party, reposing their faith in the leadership of NPF President and Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, and subscribing to the ideology and policies of the NPF.

Welcoming the five legislators into the party fold, Neiphiu Rio said their decision to join the NPF, a party that truly represents the identity and aspirations of the Naga people, is a welcome step. He expressed confidence that with their joining, the regional force will be further strengthened.
