The Office of the Wildlife Warden, Doyang Wildlife Division, Wokha, under the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of Nagaland, has reiterated the ban on hunting and trading wild animals and birds, warning of legal action against violators under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

In an order dated October 13, the Wildlife Division stated that hunting wild animals and birds within Nagaland’s territorial jurisdiction was strictly prohibited, except in cases permitted under the provisions of the Act.

The order specifically highlighted the protection of Amur Falcons, warning that hunting, trapping, killing or selling the migratory birds for food, possession or any other purpose would constitute a criminal offence.

Violators may face imprisonment of up to seven years, a fine of ₹25,000, or both, under Sections 9 and 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the order stated.

The directive requires strict compliance with the ban in areas under the jurisdiction of the Doyang Wildlife Division, covering Wokha, Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts. It further cautioned that anyone found violating the provisions of the Act would be liable for prosecution.

Wildlife Warden, Doyang Wildlife Division, Jongponglemba, stated that appropriate legal action would be initiated against individuals or groups found violating the law.

The directive underscores the importance of wildlife conservation, particularly the protection of migratory species such as the Amur Falcon, and calls for public cooperation in safeguarding Nagaland’s rich biodiversity.
