Aadhaar verifiable credentials displayed, shared or verified through the newly launched Aadhaar App will now be treated as valid identity proof, with all departments and district administrations in Nagaland directed to ensure their acceptance.
The directive follows the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar Usage Division, circular No. HQ-30011/3/2025-AU-HO dated April 30, 2026, which introduced the Aadhaar App as part of efforts to enhance digital access and identity verification.
Available on both Android and iOS platforms, the app enables Aadhaar holders to digitally show, share and verify their identity. It also allows users to share either complete or selected identity details through Aadhaar verifiable credentials without transferring their 12-digit Aadhaar number to an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE).

The digital credentials are legally recognised under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which provides legal recognition to electronic records. In accordance with the Aadhaar Act, 2016 and its regulations, credentials verified through the app are valid for establishing the identity of Aadhaar holders, alongside existing forms such as Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar, Aadhaar card and m-Aadhaar.
All concerned departments, district administrations and implementing agencies across the state have been requested to ensure strict compliance and accept Aadhaar verifiable credentials shared or verified through the app as valid identity proof.
