Kohima hosted the outreach and preview of ELECRAMA 2027 on Tuesday at Hotel De Oriental Grand, with Nagaland Minister for Power, KG Kenye, calling upon India’s electrical and electronics industry to explore the vast business and investment potential of Nagaland and the Northeast.
IEEMA is gearing up to host ELECRAMA 2027, the flagship event for the global electrical industry, scheduled from February 20 to 24, 2027, at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. With the theme of Harnessing the Power of ‘I’, this edition is poised to set new benchmarks, featuring over 1,100 exhibitors, attracting 500,000 footfalls, facilitating more than 25,000 B2B meetings, welcoming 500+ hosted buyers, and showcasing 10+ country pavilions.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Kenye described the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA) as an institution that had grown alongside the nation, acknowledging its contribution to strengthening India’s economy over more than seven decades.
Recalling his first interaction with IEEMA during its visit to Guwahati last year, he said the association’s entry into the eastern region after more than 70 years presented an important opportunity for the Northeast, which he described as a region with immense untapped potential.
Kenye urged IEEMA and its member industries to expand their presence in the region, stating that the Northeast could serve as a strategic launching pad not only for business expansion within India but also for reaching neighbouring countries.
Highlighting India’s Look East policy and improving regional connectivity through international roads and Asian highways, he said growing infrastructure links would create opportunities for business houses to establish manufacturing units and other commercial ventures in the region.
He also referred to an initiative involving the Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs to extend electricity to neighbouring countries, particularly border regions where local governments face challenges in providing power. He assured that Nagaland would be willing to take a leading role in supporting the national initiative and facilitating its implementation across the borders.
Emphasising the growing importance of electricity and electronics in modern life, Kenye observed that energy had become indispensable to almost every aspect of human activity, from household appliances to advanced scientific and technological developments.
However, he candidly acknowledged that Nagaland’s prevailing business environment was not yet fully conducive for manufacturers and investors, adding that the state continued to face certain challenges which the government and public were making efforts to address.
He stressed that creating a peaceful and business-friendly atmosphere was essential to attracting industries and generating employment opportunities for the state’s educated youth.
Pointing out that Nagaland has one of the highest literacy rates in the country, Kenye said the state has a large educated population seeking employment, while government employment had reached a saturation point. He observed that a substantial portion of the state’s financial resources was being spent on salaries and wages, leaving limited resources for other developmental priorities, including education, healthcare and infrastructure.
In this regard, he appealed to business houses and industries to come forward and invest in Nagaland, stating that private-sector participation would help address unemployment while contributing to the state’s overall economic and social development.
Assuring prospective investors of the government’s cooperation, Kenye said the state was prepared to face challenges alongside business houses and extend assistance in every possible manner. He encouraged IEEMA and its members to build on the initiative and continue expanding their engagement with Nagaland.

Congratulating the organisers on the outreach initiative, he described it as a positive beginning and urged the association not to retreat but to move forward with greater commitment.
Kenye also expressed anticipation for ELECRAMA 2027, scheduled to be held from February 20 to 24, 2027, adding that Nagaland would make efforts to participate in the event.
Principal Secretary, Power, Dr KD Vizo, also urged leading manufacturers to explore investment opportunities in Nagaland and the Northeast, stressing that the growth of the manufacturing sector could help address unemployment and create opportunities for the younger generation.
Vizo said the Northeast had largely remained behind in manufacturing despite India’s progress in electrical and electronics industries.
Drawing from his visits to Japan and China, he highlighted the importance of research, technological advancement, discipline and automation in building a strong manufacturing sector.
He appealed to manufacturers to consider establishing manufacturing, semi-knockdown, assembly and repair facilities in Nagaland and the Northeast, stating that such investments would help generate employment and address the aspirations of educated youth.
Vizo urged industrial leaders to come forward and invest in Nagaland, particularly in manufacturing, and called for greater participation of the private sector in the state’s economic development.
IEEMA Vice Chair, Eastern Region, Arjun Dev, in his welcome address, said ELECRAMA 2027 had received an unprecedented response, with its 17th edition becoming fully booked for the first time in its history.
Scheduled from February 20 to 24, 2027, he said the overwhelming industry participation had prompted organisers to expand the exhibition space to accommodate additional requests.
He described ELECRAMA as a major global platform for showcasing electrical technologies, strengthening industry partnerships and promoting collaboration, adding that the Kohima preview would help extend its outreach to the Northeast.
Nilankha Chaliha, State Head (North East) of the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), delivered a presentation highlighting ELECRAMA and its significance to the electrical and allied industries.
