Congress to hold crucial meeting in Nagaland to chart out electoral roadmap

Kohima: The day-long conference on 10 Jan will be presided over by PCC President in which the entire eight member AICC leadership will interact and address the gathering

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary i/c Nagaland Ranajit Mukherjee addressing the media on Saturday at the Congress Bhavan here in Kohima stated that the Indian National Congress leadership will schedule to hold crucial meeting with Nagaland Congress office bearers in Dimapur and the electoral roadmap will be charted out in day-long programme with Nagaland Congress office-bearers.

He announced that the AICC Senior observers for Nagaland Assembly elections MP Mukul Wasnik, AICC In-charge Ajoy Kumar and the entire AICC delegation responsible for guiding and supervising the PCC leadership of Nagaland will be arriving at Dimapur on 10 January. This is seen as a significant development to boost the morale and enthusiasm of Nagaland Congress party workers and supporters across the state, said Ranajit.

He said on 26 December 2022, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge appointed Mukul Wasnik, MP as Senior Observer for Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura Assembly elections and Francisco Sardinha, MP and Dr K Jayakumar, MP as observers for Nagaland Assembly Elections.

“They bring with them a wealth of experience that will greatly aid Nagaland Congress’s effort,” he added.

AICC constitutes Screening Committees for ensuing Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura

Further, he said that on 28 December 2022, Congress President constituted Mohan Prakash as Chairman and Sanjay Dutt and Sankar Malakar as members of the Screening Committee. Dr Ajoy Kumar, AICC In-Charge of Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura; K Therie, President NPCC; Ranajit Mukherjee AICC Secretary i/c Sikkim and Nagaland are ex-officio members.

The Screening Committee is responsible for selection of candidates through an internal process and finalising with the Central Election Authority of the party for their nomination.

He informed, on 10 January all PCC office-bearers, i.e. from Working President to Secretary and PCC Members, Heads of Departments & Cells, state body of Frontal Organisations, District Presidents and important district office-bearers have been called to Dimapur.

A day-long conference will be presided over by the PCC President K Therie in which the entire eight member AICC leadership as given above will interact and address the gathering. Observers and Screening Committee members will continue to be in Nagaland post the 10th and meet office-bearers, intending candidates and influencers from civil society.
