Smiles were accompanied by tears of joy as wheelchairs were donated to the old and differently abled villagers by Shamator Battalion of the Assam Rifles on Wednesday at the Community Health Centre in Shamator, a statement from the army said.
The Medical Officer at CHC, Shamator, at the simple function, expressed his gratitude to the Bn and said that the initiatives and commitment of the Assam Rifles were highly appreciated.
Goodwill and charity acts carried out by the Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North)/ HQ 7 Sector AR, is heard of on a regular basis and acknowledged not only by the people who are at the receiving end but by the Naga community.
Shamator Battalion has once again reached out to those who others neglect because they are too ‘remote’.

True to the motto ‘Friends of Hill People’, it stated, Shamator Bn has always made an earnest endeavour to help and support the needy, especially in the remote parts of Nagaland.
Apart from organising programmes on drug abuse and female hygiene, sending farmers to Jorhat on an educational tour and conducting sports events for youths, the Bn has distributed winter clothing for needy villagers and school supplies for children, and all these in the past one month.
