Nagaland Election 2023: Wokha Police appeals to maintain peaceful atmosphere; updates on law and order

Wokha: Several incidents of law and order were reported in the district on 10 February

With the Nagaland assembly elections due in a few weeks, Wokha Police on Friday appealed to all citizens to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and not involve in electoral offences so that all voters are able to exercise their electoral rights without fear of threat and intimidation.

This comes after several incidents of law and order was reported from the district on 10 February.

PRO and Addl. SP, Wokha stated that several inputs have been received regarding incidents of threats and intimidation of voters in the villages of Chukitong circle in the 37 Tyui Assembly Constituency (AC).

One complaint of assault and molestation of a woman was received on 4 February naming two persons. In this regard, an FIR was immediately lodged at Wokha Police Station and both the accused were arrested after intel-based searches, as the accused had gone into hiding after the incident.

During the investigation, three more persons were also named and one of them has been arrested on 10 February. An investigation is on to arrest the other two, while two vehicles involved in the incident have been seized.

Further, a report of the burning of a farmhouse near Seluku village was reported in the early hours on 10 February. Based on the inputs, Wokha Police detained two suspects in the case who were later bound down under Section 107 of CrPC as the complainant in the case could not positively identify the perpetrators of the incident.

Meanwhile, an incident of stone pelting by certain miscreants in Koio village area upon security personnel deployed for regular patrolling had also been reported. Some security personnel sustained injuries during the incident and a criminal case has been registered in this regard.

Adequate deployment of police personnel and foot patrolling is being carried out to ensure a free and fair election in a peaceful atmosphere.
