The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) in collaboration with all its frontal bodies, Phek District Administration and other government departments will be organizing a Mega Tree Plantation Drive on World Environment Day (5 June 2023).
The tree plantation is also being held to commemorate the momentous occasion of 50th anniversary of the formation of Phek district which will be celebrated in December 2023. CPO stated that the landmark event not only reminds of the progress the district has made but also serves as a reminder of the responsibility of the citizens to safeguard the natural heritage in the land.
The primary aim is to plant a significant number of fruit trees along the highways within the jurisdiction – Sedzi to Dzilhami, Sedzi to Pfutsero, Phek to Pfutsero via Sakraba, Pfutsero to Chizami). However, CPO appealed all the Village Councils under its jurisdiction to also organize such drives in their own respective jurisdiction. The other details of the plantation drive and work distribution will be issued shortly, it said.
CPO said that the success of the initiative will depend on the collective efforts and unity of the entire community and therefore requested support and active participation from all members in making the Tree Plantation Drive a resounding success. ‘The organisation firmly believes that together we can bring about positive change and create a greener, healthier environment for generations to come,’ it further added.
Further the organisation mentioned that the people of the community can help by encouraging fellow villagers to participate in the plantation, nurturing and ensuring that the trees survive. CPO has also requested people to contribute saplings, tools, equipment, or any other necessary resources for the tree planting initiative. The apex public body of the Chakhesang tribe also urged all to spread awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the significance of the Tree Plantation Drive initiative.
