The 12th Annual workshop of JICA assisted Forestry and Natural Resource Management (NRM) projects in India is being held in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh from 24th to 26th June.
The workshop is being organised by the Project for Improvement of Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystems Management and Livelihoods (PIHPFEM&L), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported project in Himachal Pradesh.
Rama Shankar Prasad, IFS, Deputy Director, Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), represented Nagaland in the workshop where he gave a presentation on the use of digital tools in planning and execution of the JICA-assisted Nagaland Forest Management Project in Nagaland.

Earlier in the day the Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Forests, Government of Himachal Pradesh, Sundar Singh Thakur inaugurated the workshop held in Shimla.
The gathering was also addressed by the Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu through virtual mode.
Himachal CM thanked the Government of Japan for its commitment to Indo-Japan friendship and called for more collaborative efforts to promote other sectors like eco tourism and infrastructure.
Saito Mitsunori, Chief Representative JICA India addressed the workshop and highlighted the various sectors where JICA is involved in 24 states. Mitsunori expressed hope that the projects will fulfil all objectives in a timely manner.

The chair of the session praised NFMP representative Rama Shankar Prasad for explaining the intricacies of the project and presentation of the experiences in Nagaland.
NFMP started during 2017-18, with the assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency. The main objective of the project is to improve forest ecosystem and support income generation by rehabilitation of Jhum areas and provision of livelihood support, thereby contributing to sustainable forest and environmental conservation and livelihood improvement in the target villages in the State.
