Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along on Thursday graced the opening ceremony of India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (I.I.M.U.N) state level conference of Nagaland at G. Rio Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
The three day conference is being held in commemoration of I.I.M.U.N 12th anniversary and hosted by G.Rio Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
Lauding the initiative undertaken by I.I.M.U.N, Minister Temjen Imna Along asserted that it is a futuristic strategy initiative.
Mentioning that he was impressed seeing the young leaders heading the I.I.M.U.N team and young students participating in the conference, Along said such platforms were not available back in their days, a platform that provides young people the opportunity to bring their suggestions, opinions and engage in healthy debates.
“…when you bring forth your suggestions and with your aspirations and have healthy debates, I am telling you that is the first step to be called educated and knowledgeable,” added Along.
Along pointed out that the nation is filled with certificates holders but not educated people.
Speaking on the sideline of the conference, Along said that youth empowerment can truly be seen through the initiative of I.I.M.U.N and young leaders, students who are leaders, future of the Nation and of the State.
“Even in a State like Nagaland, the way the Naga youth, students are growing is immense and giving the right trajectory, especially school like G. Rio school facilitating all of this things to happen is a great thing and I wish that all the students through this 2 to 3 days conference would learn a lot to be inclusive, to be goal centric, to be patient, hardworking and committed towards Nation Building so I think organizations like I.I.M.U.N help the future leaders to be really educated not only in terms of getting the certificates but educated in terms of consciousness being able to bring out thoughts into working it out throughout their lives,” said Along.

NPP MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, emphasising on the need to shape a better Nagaland said that it is within the four walls of each class room and urged the students to identify Gods givens talent and aim for the best.
Rhütso also mentioned that having each individual’s pride is not defined by wealth or the size of an individual, but one should be proud, if they have a proper education, skills and one should be employable and not just hold a certificate.
He advised the students to identify what they are good at and aim to do the best in their streams they choose. He said there was nothing to be ashamed to approach career guidance if an individual needs help.
Further, Rhütso stressed that students should focus on their studies when they are still a student and hope that this conference will help them shape to become a leader of tomorrow.
He added that to be recognised and accepted by other nations, one needs to possess love and tolerance.
“We need to practise secularism and focus on women’s security and safety,” he stated.
The MLA also advised people to be honest and hoped I.I.M.U.N will help students learn and achieve their goal through their conferences.

Meanwhile, speaking about Nagaland chapter of I.I.M.U.N, Temsu Waten, Principal, G. Rio Hr. Sec. School, said the school is well associated with the organization that provides platform for the youth to voice opinions, to have debates, group discussions, to come up with resolution and to learn about their nations and other nations.
Emphasising on the role of youth he said, the role of youth is essential in today’s time as energy, innovation, optimism which lay ground for major positive contributions comes with youth adding that, “Young people now and in the future will play a big role in how our world adapts to all the challenges that we face today”. He further encouraged the participants to make the best use of the conference and take back as much as they can from the two-day conference.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS and North Eastern Hill University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla participated in an interactive session where talked about the importance of implementing new education policy and the role of technology in today’s time.
Earlier, Guest speakers Darlando T. Khathing, Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Christian University, Dimapur and Shanavas C had a panel discussion with the students on the New Education Policy and role of technology in education.

Deepak Narayan, Charge De Affairs at I.I.M.U.N and Dr Pawan Dwivedi, trainer, speaker and career facilitator also addressed the opening ceremony.
Over 300 students from different schools of Kohima and Dimapur are participating in the conference.
I.I.M.U.N is a youth organisation comprising of 26,000 young organisers who put together student conferences in 220 cities and 35 countries, and work with over 7,500 schools impacting 10 million students. I.I.M.U.N has been the World’s largest education conference brand, having organised the World’s Largest MUN simulation in Mumbai among many other simulations. It is also the first organisation to conduct multiple MUN conferences inside the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The non-profit organisation had conducted the conference in Kohima for the first time in 2017 at G. Rio School, followed by 2018 and the latest edition of its Kohima conference was held in summer of 2022.
The vision of I.I.M.U.N is ‘to unite the world by spreading the idea of India via debates, dialogues and conferences enabling tomorrow’s leaders to learn about India. To also, be able to create leaders without creating noise.’
