Kohima: NESO secretary general says history cannot be hijacked by few people

Former President of Naga Students Federation (NSF), Christopher Ltu addressing the student community on the first day of NSF sit-in-protest claimed that Nagas have not heard of the Naga Club for decades and Naga society today, only recognises individuals who were then appointed by the tribal bodies.

Recollecting the series of events which had taken place during his tenure as the federation’s President, Ltu said the standoff between the Naga Club and NSF started in 2018 wherein, the Naga club had written to NSF requesting for a meeting which would legitimise them.

Mentioning that the Federation had declined the proposal of the then organising committee of the club who had approached the federation to organise 100 years of Naga Club in confidence with the unit and the office bearers of NSF, Ltu revealed that the federation had declined them since, they were not aware how those people were appointed or selected as leaders.

“They just came claiming themselves as Naga club,” he added.

Saying that, the All Nagaland College Students Union (ANSCU) and Kohima Press club (KPC) whose office have been brought to ground along with NSF, should stand and rise together stronger and show the adversaries that we are not going to succumb to their plan of pulling us down.

Further, he appealed every individual, the federation and it’s units to come forward and stand with NSF.

“…this is an act of Anti Naga and it is now time to see who is against the Nagas and who is with us,” he added.

Mutsikhoyo Yhobu, secretary general, Northeast Students Organisation (NESO), condemning the act said that during his days he had never heard nor faced any issue with the so-called Naga Club adding that the new Naga Club came into light just recently.

Questioning the contributions of the new Naga Club towards the people, Yhobu said the people have never heard of them. “They might have done something for their community, but no one has heard of them contributing anything for the Nagas in general,” he added.

Expressing his solidarity to NSF of what happened on 27 May, Yhobu said, “they have destroyed not only the office but the history of the Nagas.”

Pointing out that history cannot be hijacked by few people and as Naga history is very clear, he said, nobody can take away the history and exuded confidence that the 27 May incident will bring the Naga people stronger and more united.

Meanwhile, to show their resentment, protestors were seen holding placards, of which, some read, “Naga Students Federation is the rightful organisation to inherit Naga Club building”, “Naga Club vandalization at Night is an act of terrorism”, “Attacking a property/house is not acceptable in naga customary law,” “Anti -Nagas should be arrested immediately,” “Attacking students offices with Dao is an intention to take lives of students,” “Anti Nagas should not exist in Naga homeland.”
