Khonoma Village in Kohima district has been selected as one of 50 destinations to be developed as a complete package of tourism, Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along announced on Wednesday during his visit to village.
In a programme held in his honour at Terhotsiese, Khonoma Community Hall, Along said that the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, sees prospect in Khonoma village, Asia’s first green village and selected it as one of the 50 tourist destinations of India through challenge mode using integrated and innovative approach.

On his visit to the village, Along was received by Minister of Horticulture and Women Resource Development Salhoutuonuo Kruse along with Khonoma Village Council, Khonoma Youth Organisation (KYO), Eco Tourism Management Committee (ETMC).
Later, the announcement was also tweeted by Minister, Salhoutuono Kruse thanking Along for identifying Khonoma Village as one of the 50 tourist destinations of India.

Earlier on 1 February 2023 while presenting the union budget 2023-24, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that at least 50 destinations will be selected from across the country and developed as a complete package of tourism with focus on domestic as well as foreign tourists.
