NSCN-K (YA) has said that “the limit of tolerance has reached its zenith”, referring to the ongoing internal strife in the group that has led to gunfight between the two groups, one led by Yung Aung and the other comprising of expelled members led Maj. Gen. Langnyei.
Yung Aung’s group on Wednesday stated that its “silence must not be interpreted as our weakness” and that “no more restraint will be shown” after the rival group comprising of expelled members attacked the Naga Army, they were temporarily stationed at Chen Loiyi village on Tuesday.
“They indiscriminately fired lethod bombs into the public area but the Naga Army did not retaliate as to avoid collateral damage. Luckily, no one was hurt in the attack,” the statement said.
Yung Aung’s group also alleged that they were earlier attacked on 5 June 2023 near Nyanching village where Cpl. Rushi, a brave young soldier from the unit of 2nd Battalion, lost his life.

While rubbishing claims that President Yung Aung turning a ‘deaf ear’ to people’s call for peace, Aung’s followers stated that it was him who went against his own conscience and protocol to convince the party members in accepting the CSOs’ call for peace. The group instead said that “Langnyei’s arrogant and aggressive nature” was to be blamed for the failure of the peace mission initiated by various civil society organizations.
In its press release, NSCN-K (YA) also denied Langnyei’s claim that “the Naga SOs had drawn the Tigak river as a boundary line between the Council headquarters (CHQ) and General Headquarter (GHQ)” stating that no such understanding had been made.
Further, Yung Aung’s group asserted that it had been maintaining “extreme self-restraint due to the growing concern of the local public and presence of innocent Naga army cadres in GHQ” as the expelled members have seized control of the Naga Army Headquarters for the last two months. The group alleged that the rival group has recently begun targeting the public area to use innocent civilians as human shield.
