A mud slide and a rockslide occurred along the Changtonya – Longleng road at around 9 in the morning, obstructing the flow of traffic yet again. The mud slide occurred near Changtonya town, just a few minutes before where last Wednesday’s rockslide occurred. The rockslide that happened today, occurred at another location closer to Longleng.
According to locals, the landslide happened at around 9 am this morning. Civilians residing in the houses near the mud slide area were evacuated ahead of time and there were no casualties reported. The slides occurred as a result of persistent and unrelenting rainfall over the past week.
After last week’s rockslide, two earthmovers were assigned to clear the road along with one stone crusher, one stone breaker, one loader and two dumpers had been deployed to the site according to Osangtemjen, PRO to Nitin Sai Company. Although the site was expected to be cleared by Saturday evening, more boulders fell and blocked the road further.
When asked for a statement C. Wangan, the Civil SDO of Changtonya said, “The road construction company are trying their best to clear the road however due to continuous mud slide at the same location it is becoming difficult to clear the debris. Hopefully by this evening they will open the road for light vehicle to pass through.”
