The All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) has clarified on the alleged ‘plastic rice’ that was distributed through the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Mokokchung town stating that it was actually fortified rice and not plastic rice, as widely circulated on social media.
AWUMT has informed that it held a meeting with the Assistant Director of Food & Civil Supplies in Mokokchung to seek clarification on the matter.

The union emphasized that fortified rice is different from normal rice because it contains additional micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12. This fortified rice is mixed with normal rice and distributed through the Public Distribution System. AWUMT stated that consuming fortified rice does not harm consumers but instead adds nutrition to the rice and to those who consume it.
AWUMT urged the public to be informed about fortified rice and to consume it without any worries.
