A Workshop cum Training Session on Waste Management and Ban on Single-Use Plastic was successfully conducted at the Council Hall, Sovima Village. The event, organized by the Tribal Welfare Society in collaboration with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), aimed to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices, DIPR informed.
K. Hukato Chishi, IFS, Member Secretary of NPCB, emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal and the elimination of single-use plastic bags to overcome waste management challenges. He highlighted the detrimental impact of single-use plastics on both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including marine environments. The successful implementation of the ban on single-use plastic relies on effective engagement and concerted efforts from all stakeholders and enthusiastic public participation, he added.
During the welcome address, Sebastian Zumvü, Chairman, Sovima Village Council shared the village’s initiatives in tree plantation and hunting ban, leading to notable improvements in the community. He urged the government to provide further guidance on waste management and single-use plastic ban and expressed the village’s aspiration to become a model village for sustainable practices.
The Workshop cum Training Session served as an important step towards creating awareness and fostering sustainable practices in Sovima Village, setting an inspiring example for other communities in waste management and the fight against single-use plastic pollution.
