The Naga Hoho, in a press statement released on Tuesday, said that the FA represents “a ray of hope” and that it was an important step towards resolving the longstanding conflict which is crucial not only for the people of Nagaland but the entire Northeast region. It also stressed that Government of India must fulfil its promise to the FA and urged that it does not delay the process any further as it will only perpetuate the suffering and uncertainty in the region.

“While, Nagas do not interfere in any other issues, we will not allow any community/agency to stand in the way of our pursuit for Rightful Political Rights”, Naga Hoho president H K Zhimomi and General Secretary K Elu Ndang asserted in the statement.

The Hoho stated that Nagas have “historical and legitimate claim to their ancestral land” and are committed to the peaceful resolution of the Naga political issue through dialogue and negotiations.

“It is our firm belief that the Nagas’ aspirations do not infringe upon the rights of other communities residing in the region,” the Naga Hoho said while urging neighbouring communities and states not to “hinder or interfere” in the process.

While reiterating its commitment to a peaceful resolution, the Naga Hoho further appealed all stakeholders involved to respect the rights and dignity of the Nagas and to work together towards achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

We look forward to the day when the Nagas can live in harmony, equality, and prosperity with our neighbours and the rest of India, it stated.
