NLA Committee on Petition holds inaugural sitting

Kohima: Committee tasked with investigating complaints outlines in petitions, suggesting appropriate remedial measures

On 25 July 2023, the Committee on Petition for the 2023-2023 Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) convened its first sitting which took place in the Committee Room of the Assembly Secretariat with K. Konngam Konyak, Advisor for Treasuries & Accounts and Art& Culture, presiding as the Chairman, DIPR stated in a report.

As per Rule 233 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), the Committee on Petition was constituted on 28 March 2023, comprising of several members including K. Konngam Konyak as its Chairman and C. Kipili Sangtam, Zhaleo Rio, Kevipodi Sophie, Kropol Vitsu, Kuzholuzo Nienu and Nyamnyei Konyak as its members.

The committee’s powers and functions were briefed to the Members of the committee by the Chairman as well as its roles in examining its roles in examining petitions referred to it. The Committee on Petition is tasked with investigating complaints outlines in the petitions and suggesting appropriate remedial measures.

However, certain types of representations or petitions fall outside the Committee Branch at the Assembly Secretariat which includes anonymous letter or those lacking sender information, as well as endorsement copies of letters not addressed to the Speaker of the house.
