The annual cleanliness events- Swachhata Pakhwada, Indian Swachhata League 2.0 (ISL 2.0) and Swachhata Hi Seva -were launched in the districts of Mokokchung, Longleng, Medziphema, Wokha in Nagaland in the last couple of days, DIPR informed.

In Mokokchung, ISL 2.0 was launched at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Monday where ward authorities and youth volunteers from all the 18 Wards attended. Delivering a short speech at the event, ADC & Administrator, Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe asked the citizens of Mokokchung town to come together by putting their efforts to showcase Mokokchung as one of the cleanest places not only in Nagaland but in the country as well.

Youth being the power house of movement, the ADC asked the youth to be warriors in the fight against garbage. He asked them to use their creative minds for good and productivity in the society.

During the program, Changsen Pongen presented the theme song and the participants led by ADC & Administrator, MMC took the Swachhata Pledge.

DIPR also stated that Swachhata Pakhwada was launched in Longleng at Public Ground, Longleng on 16th September 2023. ADC & Administrator, LTC Longleng Team Captain, Longleng Swachhata, Alongdhimen Jamir, NCS in his keynote address said to understand, appreciate and embrace the essences of Swachhata League. He said that Indian Swachhata led by vibrant youth which commits towards building a garbage free cities. He informed that after the event is completed, every city and town will have to submit official entry detailing their activities supported by photos and videos and will be evaluated base on essential criteria.

The scale of youth engagement through voluntary registration of MyGov app whereas each entry shall be examine based on innovative ness and its impact. Further, Jamir said that the top ten teams across the country who truly stood out shall be declared as champions. He opined that the league is not just an event, but a movement, a promise and a vision for a cleaner brighter India and leading towards a garbage-free India.

SP Longleng, Yanger Jamir, in his address said that the purpose of observing this Swaachata Pakhwada is to carry forward the vision of keeping the environment clean and green in day-to-day lives rather than focusing on publicity. He emphasized on the need for putting into practice the dedication for creation of a livable environment and further inspired the citizens to adopt cleaner practice in their daily life. He called upon the people to keep the town clean and avert oneself from diseases.

During the event, choreography on the theme song was performed by the students of St. Joseph High School, Longleng and the administration of Swachhata Pakhwada Pledge was done by L. Chuna Phom, Brand Ambassador SBM(U) Longleng and President all ward Union.

The program was chaired by EAC Hq. Longleng, Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak P, NCS was attended by a host of government departments, school children, traders union, wards and civil organizations.

Medziphema Town Council, along with the rest of the country, observed Swachhata Hi Seva. The launch of Swachhata Pakhwada was held on 16th September 2023 with Lt. Col. C.H. Jacob, second in command of the 7th Assam Rifles, as the special guest, DIPR said.

Lt. Col. C.H. Jacob, in his speech encouraged the gathering to focus on one’s commitment towards cleanliness. He called upon the gathering to devote themselves in keeping the environment clean. He challenged the youth to take up cleanliness for the cause of Swachhata and encouraged them not to forget the responsibility as they are the bearers of the society. He also said that the public need to re-consider their attitude in approaching life and maintaining the environment. Lt. Col. C.H. Jacob challenged the gathering to bring change in oneself first and be an ambassador of Swachh Bharat.

The main event of the ISL 2.0 was held from September 15th -17th under the theme “Youth Vs Garbage.” The event featured a slogan-writing competition at City Centre Medziphema, with the participation of students from different schools and was attended by various organisations, village leaders, ward members, youths, students, educators and department officials.

The event concluded with a grand finale, which involved 1,600 students from SFS Higher Secondary School performing the theme song and a flash mob to emphasize the battle against garbage. ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu inaugurated the event and delivered a short message on Swachhata Pakhwada, emphasising the objectives of Swachhata league 2.0. and keeping the environment clean and healthy fulfilling the vision of Mahatma Gandhi.

A cleanliness drive was conducted in all government offices and market area

DIPR also informed that Swachhata Pakhwada was launched for Wokha Town Council at the office of the Wokha Town Council on 15th September 2023 with SDO(C), Tsidi as the guest speaker.

Tsidi spoke on the importance of cleanliness and the purpose of organising the programme. He stressed on the importance of awareness among the citizens of the town. Participants of the programme also took the Swachhata Pakhwada Pledge. Zubenthung Jungio, HA, Wokha Town Council proposed the vote of thanks during the program.
