Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today announced that the internet ban in the entire jurisdiction of Manipur will be lifted from September 23.
Addressing a press conference in Imphal, Singh stated that the internet ban had been imposed for precautionary measures to prevent the spread of rumours and videos, photos, and messages, which might affect the law and order situation of the State.

An order by the Governor of Manipur on September 23 also notified that it is “pleased to revoke all orders issued regarding suspension of Mobile data Services under Rules 2 of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017 and hereby orders the restoration of MMS over Mobile Service Providers/Mobile internet/ Data services in the territorial jurisdiction of State of Manipur normally with effect from 23-09-2023.”
The ban had been imposed since May 4 following the volatile law and order situation between the Kuki-Zo tribals and Meiteis, and was extended from time to time (for 144 days) and remained in force till today.
