Induction Programme held at MCTE

Mokokchung: The Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) welcomes 50 teacher aspirants into the college

The Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE) held an Induction Program on 3 September for the new batch of B Ed students for 2022-24.

Giving the exhortation, Dr Temsurenla, Vice Principal of MCTE, posed some questions to the 50 freshers joining the college: What do you want the most in life? Why are you here? What is your purpose? She then shared about her life experiences as a teacher. She further spoke on the topic Humane Educational Practitioners which is the vision of the college, stating that teachers should possess the qualities of being kind and taking care of others.

Dr Temsurenla said that a teacher’s work can be quite challenging but it can be done if he or she is dedicated. She asked the freshers to keep three things in mind: start where you are; use what you have; do what you can.

She encouraged the new batch of students to stick to the vision of the college and be a humane educational practitioner, reminding them that every teacher requires to develop emotional maturity.

Lastly, the vice principal encouraged the freshers to keep updated with knowledge, inculcate humane educational practitioners, and strive to be good teachers.

A special prayer for the freshers was given by Imtimenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, MCT.

During the program, speeches were also given by Temsumenla Walling of 3rd Semester and Putikokba on behalf of the freshers. The program was followed by refreshment prepared by the Campus Dwellers Fellowship of MCTE and then followed by informal session.

Held at the 3rd Semester classroom, the Induction Program was organised by the 3rd Semester batch and the teacher in-charge, Pomei Jorlim, Assistant Professor and Temjenzungba Kechu, guest faculty of MCTE.

Established by the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland in 2012, MCTE is a Secondary Teacher Education Institution. It is affiliated to Nagaland University and recognised by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi. Offering a two-year B Ed course, the mission of the college is Equipping Educational Practitioners with Experiences for facilitating learners develop into Conscientious Citizenry, in the landscape of social Reconstruction.

The college was established with the initial purpose of catering to the in-service and pre-service professional development requirements of teachers of five districts of Nagaland – Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Mon, Longleng and Tuensang. Today, however, there are student teachers from across all districts of the state.

Every year the MCTE accepts 50 freshers into the college. After graduating from the college, most of the in-service student-teachers join their respective schools. Pre-service student-teachers also start preparing and appearing for exams. The college also has a placement cell which helps in coordinating with private schools to fill up the posts for teacher/principal, as in when vacancy arises. Alumnis who register are contacted through the placement cell to fill up the vacancy.
