Following the indefinite shut down of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, the Sao Chang College Students’ Union (SCCSU) held a peaceful rally today in solidarity with the Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS).
Hundreds of students marched from Tower Clock till the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tuensang to protest against the non-fulfillment of their chartered demands: Deployment of a Principal, upgradation of Science laboratory, allocation of college buses and shortage of both teaching and non-teaching staff.
‘Tomorrow is too late’, ‘Ignoring us won’t educate the present and the future’, ‘We are done enduring’, were some of the statements in the placard displayed by the students.
The SCCSU submitted a memorandum addressed to the Director of Higher Education, supporting the earlier memorandum submitted by the CWS. “We believe that the demand put forth by Chang Wedoshi Setshang are in the best interest of our student community. We implore concern department to engage in constructive dialogue with the students and the representative to resolve these issue promptly. We look forward to a positive solution that benefits and ensure a safe and nurturing environment for the students’ community,” stated the letter issued by Sekmoyembang, President and T. S Puchoi, General Secretary.

Tungchamo Tungoe, Additional DC Tuensang in a letter to the Director of Higher Education Department, stated that during a meeting with the District Administration, the Sao Chang College Students’ Union expressed the need for a written assurance from the Department of Higher Education as to when their demands would be fulfilled including the posting of a principal to Sao Chang College, Tuensang. “In the light of the above circumstances, the Department of Higher Education is requested to look into the matter urgently. This is for your kind information and further necessary action please,” stated Tungoe.
