The Office of the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung informed on Wednesday evening that the witnesses of the Metsuben Farm murder had reported that “the deceased had come with a Naga Dao and started verbal argument with them.” The deceased has been identified as Late Longshang (54 Yrs), a worker in the farm.
According to the press release, the firing incident at the farm in Chuchuyimpang Village in Mokokchung district was reported around 4:33 pm on 17th October 2023 and on rushing to the site, the personnel of Police Station-1 found one dead body “near the fishery pond with injury on his left chest, suspected to be a gun shot.”
Police said that, after enquiry, it was learned that the deceased had an altercation with his nephew under the influence of alcohol since two days back. The nephew reported the matter to the farm owner and accused of the crime, Moasangba Jamir (61 Yrs), to reprimand the deceased’s behaviour. Witnesses reported that on 17th October, the deceased had come with a Naga Dao and started verbal argument with them, which prompted to fire three rounds from a .22 rifle to intimidate the deceased of which “one bullet hit the deceased’s chest and he succumbed to his injury”, the Police added.
The press release mentioned that the accused was apprehended and one .22 rifle and four live rounds were seized from his possession. Three .22 empty cases were also recovered and seized from the spot, the Police said, adding that one Naga Dao was recovered near the dead body at Metsuben Farm.
The Post Mortem examination was conducted at IMDH, Mokokchung and on completion of all necessary formalities, the body of Lt. Longshang was handed over to the family members, Police further informed.
In this connection, a Suo Motto FIR was lodged and a regular case was registered vide MKG PS-I C/NO-0022/23 U/S-302 IPC R/W 25 (IB) Arms Act, for further investigation, SP Office Mokokchung added.
