The Committee on Tribal Unity  (CoTU) has today declared an emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district to convey to the Union Government that “we are no longer safe under partisan Government”. The declaration comes following the killing of two villagers in an ambush in Haraothel and Kobsha village, in Kangpokpi district.

A press note issued by the Committee on Tribal Unity  (CoTU) on November 20, has condemned “the unprovoked attack at Haraothel & Kobsha village, Kangpokpi district, by the war mongering Meitei insurgents”. According to the CoTU, two innocent Kuki-Zo villagers, Henminlen Vaiphei S/o Luntinlal Vaiphei, Mission Veng Leimakhong & Thangminlun Hangshing S/o Lunkhongam Hangshing, Khunkho village were brutally killed in the attack.

According to the Committee, an emergency meeting was held to call for an early materialisation of the demand for seperation from Manipur. “Press, emergencies and COTU units will be exempted from the shutdown,” stated the press note.

“If the repeated appeals of the Kuki-Zo community had been heard by the Union Home Ministry, series of unfortunate incident could have been avoided. The Union Home Ministry must take into account the continuous attacks and that political seperation is the only option left now,” asserted the CoTU.
