Chakhesang men and women win tug of war competitions at 24th Hornbill Festival

Kisama: Konyak comes second in male category while Rengma and Sumi tribes secure third position

The Chakhesang tribe emerged champion in both male and female category of the 24th Hornbill festival tug of war competition held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on Thursday, a DIPR report stated. The event was organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports.

In the female category, while Chakhesang tribe bagged the first position, Phom bagged the second position. Kachari and Pochury tribes bagged the third position.

In the male category, Chakhesang tribe won in the first position, Konyak tribe came second while Rengma and Sumi tribes secured the third position.

In another event organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports exclusively for tourists at the Naga Heritage Village, H Jonah from Manipur won the first position in the Stilt Bamboo Race. This indigenous game competition was held on 6th December 2023 as part of the ongoing Hornbill Festival.

Satish Kampal from Assam and Lok Bahadur Khatri from Nepal clinched the second and third respectively.

25 tourists took part in the competition where they were required to walk on the Stilt Bamboo for 13 Metres. Assistant Director, Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nyuvitho gave away the prizes to the winners.
