Braving the chilly weather, several members of Phek District Maytas Gayatri Damaged Victims’ Association (PDMGDVA), young and old, from all 22 affected villages/towns marched out on the two-lane roads in the Phek on December 9 in protest against delaying timely release of damaged compensation by the State Government.

Slogans were raised questioning the delay over one month and “imprecise non committal attitude of the State Government”, stated a press release issued by the Association. Despite resentment from members, the agitation process was carried out peacefully without anyone causing any undesirable or untoward incident throughout the day.

“As publicly announced the Association shall honor Sunday and go ahead with the Second Phase of Agitation of 48 (24+24) Hrs Road Blockade December 11 and 12 (Monday & Tuesday) if the State Government still fails to communicate to the Association a definite response in the meantime,” stated the press release. Exemption of certain categories of vehicular movement as notified earlier vis-à-vis December 9 Agitation will remain unchanged till further notification.

It also informed that the Third Phase of Agitation will be announced as and when required. The Association acknowledged its members for giving full cooperation and support to the success of the First Phase of Agitation and appealed to them to be prepared as and when called for. It also expresses gratitude to the general public for extending their solidarity for the cause of justice. “The involvement of District Administration and Police in ensuring peaceful and democratic protest is sincerely appreciated,” stated the Association.
