Promotion of local products and talents crucial for economic growth and development: MP S. Phangnon Konyak inaugurates 4th Mon International Trade Fair and Expo 2024

The Inauguration function of the 4th Mon International Trade Fair and Expo (MITFE) 2024 was held at Local Ground, Mon Town on January 5, 2024 under the initiative of the Mon District Administration led by the Deputy Commissioner, informed the DIPR. Inaugurated by S. Phangnon Konyak, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) in the presence of Wangpang Konyak, MLA AC-43, Tapi and Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mon, the event was attended by government officers, civil society leaders, other public leaders and various participants from town and villages.

 

During the event, the MP appreciated the efforts of District Administration, Mon led by the Deputy Commissioner for organizing such a grand event in a remote district like Mon. Konyak noted that this effort will ultimately benefit all the stakeholders in product promotion, market development, branding and economic upliftment of local entrepreneurs. Stressing on the importance of promotion of local products and talents for economic growth and development of the district, Konyak viewed that the exhibitions and trade fair like MITFE should be promoted and organized regularly. In addition, she also mentioned about various welfare schemes from Government of India, instancing the ongoing Vikshit Bharata Sankalp Yatra and appealed all the public to actively participate and avail the benefit from these welfare schemes.

 

Guest of Honour, Wangpang Konyak, MLA highlighted the advantages of MITFE-2024 and expected that it will be beneficial for the local economy and promoting entrepreneurship among the local population especially youth. He also appealed to the people to actively participate and learn the new arts, techniques, crafts and talents from various participants coming from various parts of the country.

Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma IAS, informed that the 14-day event will conclude on January 18 and will feature various programme and performances from renowned artists, singers, bands and performers in addition to the exhibition of stalls and trade fair. He mentioned that MITFE was initiated with the motive of providing a common platform to various artisans, singers, performers and other local art, craft and talents. The event will be helpful in expanding the sales network, developing a brand promotion channel for market development of various products from micro and small entrepreneurs.

Tingtok Konyak, President, Union President also expressed his gratitude to the District Administration for their effort in promoting local products, brands, cultural and traditional heritage by organizing such a grand event. He assured his full support to the organizer and wished for a successful event in the coming days.

The event featured cultural performances by the Hamho Ukhong and Bamboo dance by Hongphoi Group, special number by Phangmei Yanlem and Chahwang group. The vote of thanks was proposed by SDO© Mon, L. Mongo Khiamniungan, NCS. The event concluded with the visit of stalls by the Special Guest and other dignitaries.
