The Nagaland men’s basketball team began their participation at the 72nd Nationals North East Basketball Championship today with two matches – one win, one loss – here in Aizawl, Mizoram.
This morning, Team Nagaland defeated Assam in a neck-to-neck match, where Nagaland won the match by a 3-point margin of 79 to Assam 76.
The highest scorer of the first match from the Nagaland team went to Keneitseizo Belho with a total of 21 points followed by Keneizelhou Kevin Tale scoring 16 points.
Later this evening, the Naga boys took on the Meghalaya boys in the last match of the day but was defeated by their opponent with a 10 points difference of 73 to Meghalaya 83.
The Nagaland team took full control of the game in the first quarter of the match, leading with 18 points on a score of 24 to 6 but they were soon overpowered by the strong three-point shooters of Team Meghalaya.
Tomorrow, the final day of the tournament, Team Nagaland will take on the host team Mizoram on the third match of the day.
This will be a deciding game for Nagaland on whether they will be in the top 3 Pool A tables for the next edition.
