NSCN IM has condemned the alleged torture inflicted upon one DK Korungthang Maring on 30th January 2024 by the 3rd Assam Rifles at Tengnoupal in Manipur and said that the personnel involved in the crime ought to be arrested and tried under the Indian Penal Code. The group also accused the AR personnel of “looting” Rs four lakh and a vehicle from the victim.

“What really caught the attention of all who value human rights is the appalling behavior of 3rd Assam Rifles post in Tengnoupal, Manipur, targeting an innocent person and looting Rs.4 lakh in cash and Maruti Gypsy after giving 3rd degree torture to DK. Korungthang”, NSCN IM stated in a press release.

According to Ukhrul Times, the Chandel Apex Civil Body Organization, Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) had stated that Maring was undergoing “intensive medical treatment” in Imphal due to a “third degree torture” inflicted upon him by the paramilitary personnel stationed at 3rd Assam Rifles.

The Ukhrul Times further quoted from the press release issued by CNPO on 2nd February 2024, “The unfortunate incident so happened when Dk. Korungthang Maring and his associate Ds. Moran of N. Satang Village were travelling to N. Satang Village via Machi. At the junction of Sansak road, some paramilitary personnel of the 3rd Assam Rifles who were stationed there intercepted and detained the duo and abducted them to an unknown place.”

The duo was brought to Chandel Police Station on 1 February 2024, “in such a heinous condition that Dk. Korungthang was immediately referred to Imphal for emergency medical attention,” Ukhrul Times reported. CNPO further alleged that a cash amount of Rs four lakhs for business purpose and a Gypsy driven by Dk. Korungthang were allegedly sieged by the Assam Rifles personnel, it added.
