A ten day expedition to Mezoma village in Kohima conducted by the trainees of North East Institutions of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima concluded on February 9.
Altogether 68 trainees from NEISSR participated in the camp under the supervision of Bokatoli and Tosang Chang. The trainees were given a warm welcome by Mezoma Village Council, Mezoma Youth Organisation, Women Association and GBs, informed a press release.
The trainees were engaged in various activities that included conducting a comprehensive survey of village household, gaining valuable insights into community needs and challenges. The survey not only facilitated learning but also fostered understanding of villagers’ way of life. The trainees were also made to engage in real-world scenarios allowing the trainees to apply theoretical knowledge practically as well as enhancing their learning experience as a case study. The integration of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) into the curriculum equipped trainees with practical skills for community engagement, emphasizing NEISSR’s commitment to cultural sensitivity and social responsibility.

Further, a workshop on quality education and women empowerment was also conducted by the trainees.
The rural camp also featured a talent night where the community and the trainees were actively involved showcasing talents fostering camaraderie through shared skills and performances.
During this extensive camp, a sports day was also held where Selievi Kehie, President, Students’ Union spoke and highlighted the importance of teamwork and healthy lifestyle to be followed while interacting with the trainees all the while exchanging ideas and experiences achieved in the field of sports.
A cultural night was celebrated during the rural camp where both the trainees and the community exchanged respective cultural representations through dance, songs, displaying traditional attires and sharing of indigenous cuisines.
