The 20th General Conference of the Nagaland Judges’ Association was held at De Oriental Grand, Kohima on 24th February 2024 with Justice Devashis Baruah, Judge, Gauhati High Court as the Special Guest and T N Mannen Advisor, Law & Justice & Land Revenue, Government of Nagaland as the Guest of Honour.
DIPR informed that Justice Devashi Baruah, in his address, emphasised on civil laws in Assam and briefly mention about his stay in Kohima and how he handled many criminal laws. He also enlightened the judges about the Constitution of India and how any action on the part of state should least effect on the people.
T.N Mannen in his short speech emphasis on how delivery of justice should be ensured in a proper way and how interpretation of customary law and usages need to be articulated in a proper manner by the Nagas. He also stated how customary law is subject to changes and is rather dynamic in nature and how one should remember as a judge that “Justice delayed is justice denied”.
Y.Longkumer shared about how power comes with responsibility and enlightened the judges to be honest and to work with integrity and how common people should have faith and trust in judges.
