Training on Online Civil Registration of Births and Deaths held for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland

Chümoukedima: Nagaland’s overall birth registration comes to an average of 80000 annually and death registrations comes to 3000-4000

The Office of the District Economics & Statistics Officer, Dimapur organised a day long training programme on the Online Civil Registration of Births and Deaths under Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts on Friday at Agri Expo, Chümoukedima.

According to DIPR, Deputy Commissioner and District Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths, Dimapur, Tinojongshi Chang, said that with the advancement of technology, registrations are now being switched to online medium. Now with online registration people from anywhere in the world can register, he said.

In addition, the DC underlined the role of local registrars and areas falling within their areas and jurisdiction for the issuance of birth & death certificate to be cautious while filling the form, as once it is entered in the data it will be difficult to reissue.

Chang also highlighted the use and purpose of Birth & Death Certificates, along with the importance of recording the exact data as these records are subsequently used to study the demographic profile and other features.

Addl. Director, Economics & Statistics & Joint Chief Registrar of Births& Deaths, Kohima, Neisatuo Puro in his key note address highlighted that the registration of Birth & Death Act 1969 had been functioning under Nagaland Birth & Death Modules Rule 1999 but the amendments finally came into effect from 1st October 2023 and is in the process of implementing State Module Rules. He said that with new amendment came into force; birth certificate is the only document as the final proof for death and place of birth.

Puro informed the registrars to enhance their registration of death, as Nagaland’s overall birth registration comes to an average of 80000 annually and death registrations comes to 3000-4000, which is beyond the actual occurrence, if deaths are not registered it can cause problem in the data set, he added.

Puro also highlighted that with online registration nothing has change, everything will be the same, and it is just a transfer of data in electronic and primary requirement is just a smart phone and internet connection needed. Further, he urged the trainees to properly acquaint themselves with the civil registration system as they are the stakeholders who will implement the system at ground level. In addition, urged the registrar to work with proper dedications for the implementation of civil registration system by furnishing the actual report.

The resource person for the training was Economics & Statistics, Director of Economics & Statistics, Kohima, Chonbeni Patton. Nearly 200 trainees, senior officers from the Directorate office attended the training session. The trainees were imparted training on technical and practical session.
