The Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) on  Friday said that it would direct people from Mao community to leave Angami jurisdiction on or before 17th March 2024 in view of the “failure on the part of the Mao Council to comply with the ultimatum served by the Angami Public Organisation (APO) for complete withdrawal of Manipur State Rifles/Police and its security establishments from the disputed site at Kezoltsa”.

In its press release, AYO maintained that APO had tried to solve the Kezoltsa issue in an amicable way that will be “acceptable and honourable to all the parties involved” but “the presence of the Manipur armed forces within the disputed site under the patronage of the Mao Council has been the primary stumbling block in resolving the impending issue.”

“The inaction and the negative response of the Manipur government and the Mao Council is a direct challenge to the entire Angami community,” the youth organisation stated.

AYO also informed that an emergency executive meeting was convened with all its four ranges – Northern Angami Youth Organisation, Western Angami Youth Organisation, Southern Angami Youth Organisation and Chakhroma Youth Organisation – and in the meeting the following resolutions were made:

1. Due to non-compliance of the Manipur government to withdraw its armed forces from the disputed site, the AYO along with its four ranges decided to carry out an extensive exercise on the census of Mao populace living/residing within the Angami jurisdiction.
2. In the failure of the Manipur government to withdraw its armed forces from the disputed site, the AYO directs the Mao citizens to evict from its jurisdiction on or before 17th March 2024.

On 6th March 2024, the Southern Angami Public Organisation had also directed Mao citizens residing in Angami jurisdiction to leave.
