Phek district has most TB free villages in Nagaland

Phek: DC urges citizen to give support to TB patients who are economically weak and unable to manage their treatments

Phek has 34 villages that are tuberculosis free, the highest among the districts in Nagaland. On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day 2024 on 24th March 2024, Deputy Commissioner, Phek John Tsulise Sangtam presented tokens of appreciation to the chairmen of the 34 village panchayats in a felicitation ceremony, DIPR has informed.

During the World TB Day programme held at Dr. Wethselo Memorial Hall, District Hospital, Phek on the theme ‘Yes! We can End TB’, DC Sangtam also acknowledged the Medical Department in the district under Chief Medical Officer, Phek for the achievement.

The DC, who was the Guest Speaker, expressed his confident for implementation of various government policies for total eradication of TB. He then spoke about “Nikshay Mitra” programme which is most helpful and support receiving scheme for TB patients. He encouraged the citizens of Phek selflessly give support to TB patients who are economically weak and unable to manage their treatment.

Speaking on the keynote address Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Phek, who is also a dentist, urged the people to maintain cleanliness, which must start from the body health of every individual. She also stated that diagnosed TB patients should take the full course of medication without fail, provided with the full support of nutritional food.

Col. Chundawat Prashant Singh, SC Commandant 38th Assam Rifle, Phek in his short speech highlighted on awareness of TB bacteria.

District Program Manager, Sede Rupreo, spoke on the meaning and the purpose of the scheme “Nikshay Mitra” program, during which he informed that as per the latest diagnosed there are only forty (40) TB patients left to be cured under Phek district.

District TB Officer Dr. Ebenezer Phesao proposed the words of gratitude and acknowledgement act towards stakeholders.

Other highlights of the program were Classical Rectal by Velato Nienu AM&E, DAPCU, Phek, Special Appearance by Sound Solution, Phek, and presentation of Drama by Holy Care School Phek.

The programme was chaired by Heirhotho Kajiri, DIS DAPCU Phek. CMO Phek, Dr. Avile Zao delivered the welcome addressed. Invocation was pronounced by Kanili Dienu while Dr. Wemeri Khutsoh proposed the vote of thanks.
