The Income Tax Department has sent a new notice of Rs 1823 crore to the Congress Party. The IT Department had earlier frozen eleven accounts belonging to the Congress on 20th February 2024.
Addressing a press conference, Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken claimed that IT has “closed its eyes on BJP’s violation of Rs 42 crore, but Congress snatched Rs 135 crore from us on the basis of Rs 14 lakh given by 23 of our leaders, whose names and addresses are also available.”
The IT has penalized the Congress Rs 135 crore for alleged violation on Rs 14 lakh received by the party in 2018-19.
“Income Tax Department and Election Commission are turning a blind eye to the shortcomings of BJP, they only see Congress,” Maken claimed, stating that the names and addresses of those who donated Rs 42 crore to BJP were missing and yet no action was taken on it. He also said that “review of the way BJP violated the rules of the IT department shows that BJP faces a penalty of Rs 4,600 crore in seven years.”
Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP of “misusing institutions like IT, ED, CBI to subvert Democracy and belittle Constitution.” Congresspersons are never afraid! We will fight the elections with our full might, he further added.
General Secretary (Organisation), KC Venugopal said that the IT Department has “launched its next premeditated, diabolical campaign against the INC.”
This is nothing but a blatant and naked attack on the very principals of democracy, he remarked while calling for all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) to hold massive public demonstrations at the State and District headquarters in their respective states on Saturday and on Sunday, involving senior leaders and party functionaries.
