The Konyak Union, on behalf of the Konyak Civil Society Organizations (CSO), has issued a notice to N Chingwang Konyak, President, NDPP, summoning him to appear at the Konyak Union office at Mon Headquarters for his remarks on the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization’s decision to abstain from participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at campaign programme for the People’s Democratic Alliance’s consensus candidate in Wokha on 5th April 2024, Chingwang Konyak reportedly said that ENPO’s non participation in the elections will be their own loss.
In the summon letter, KU came down hard on Konyak stating that despite the directive from ENPO not to comment on the FNT matter, the NDPP President had “on multiple occasions, made unfavorable comments” regarding the issue. “Your repeated disregard to the Eastern Nagaland (EN) community and the Konyaks in particular is totally unacceptable,” it said.
The KU said that Chingwang Konyak’s actions not only defy the authority of the Konyak CSO but also brought disgrace and humiliation upon the entire EN community, particularly the Konyak people whom you represent.”
“Your conduct is unbecoming of a responsible citizen and a leader,” it added.
The apex tribal body has given Chingwang Konyak 48 hours to explain his actions, failing to comply, “stern disciplinary action” would be taken against him, it said.
