As the State goes to vote today to elect its representative to the 18th Lok Sabha, polling stations across Eastern Nagaland wore a deserted look in the first two hours. The citizens of the region have chosen to stay indoors in support of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO)’s call for abstention from participating in the elections.

ENPO’s had also announce indefinite total shutdown in the six districts which began last evening from 6:00 pm. These forms of protest are a show of complete resentment of the disregarded by the State and Central governments.

Despite the appeals made by the region’s Legislators and the caution that this abstention may hinder the talks for Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT), the people of Eastern Nagaland are so far standing in solidarity with the tribal leaders.

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland has served the President of ENPO, R Tsapikiu Sangtam with a show-cause notice for calling the indefinite shutdown during the polling hours “interfering with the free exercise of those residing in Eastern Nagaland Areas to vote in the General Elections to the Lok Sabha 2024”.
