The Tsütuonuomia Students Union (TSU), Kohima Village, conducted a Tree Plantation Drive in commemoration of its 75 years jubilee on Saturday at Tsütuo Kharu, Seithogei. The event was organised in collaboration with the Kohima Forest Division under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Speaking on the occasion, DFO Kohima Chisayi, IFS highlighted today’s event focuses on ‘Urban Greening’ and that they plan to plant 400 tree saplings.
He lauded TSU for their community work, particularly the night school initiative. The DFO also said that he was impressed by the Tree Plantation Drive, a progressive event organized by student volunteers. Living in a time where the youth often lack time to volunteer, he stated found the initiative inspiring, giving hope to society.
“Our young people are leading by example and achieving great things,” Chisayi commented. He urged them to pave the way for other villages, setting a positive example to address the need to make the state greener amidst discussions on pollution and global warming.
The Kohima DFO further expressed hope that passersby would feel the positivity of the tree-filled, fresh-air in the village. As TSU mark their 75th anniversary, he called on the Union to guide younger unions. It is time for student unions to make headlines for positive reasons, he stated.
He emphasized planting trees for peace and encouraged students, parents, and children to join hands in greening the city for a healthier and safer environment, contributing to society by enhancing the environment is always beneficial.
Kezhakietuo Belho, Pastor, Khedi Baptist Church, blessed the program with invocation. The program was chaired by President, Tsütuonuomia Students Union, Mhasisetuo Solo.
