Nagaland University, Lumami, organised Yuvamanthan Model United Nations (YMUN) for Viksit Bharat @2047 on the theme “Lifestyle for Environment” on 30th April, 2024 at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall.
The organisers informed that YMUN is an exhilarating academic simulation that propels students into the world of international diplomacy. At YMUN, young leaders and professionals come together to hone their skills in public speaking, diplomacy, and problem-solving all while representing different countries and tackling pressing global issues, it said.
Addressing the event as the guest speaker, Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, Lumami emphasized the importance of YMUN for the youth of the world and hailed the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat @2047. He urged the students to harness their struggle, embrace their originality, and maintain a passion for instigating positive change.
Further, he stressed the need for the students to not just walk but run in life, “chalna nahi, daudna hai”, and encouraged the Naga youth to contribute and make a positive impact not only in the national but at the international level.
A total of 21 students from different departments of the university represented different countries as delegates. They addressed the issues pertaining to the environment, climate change, sustainable living and the measures to tackle them in an inclusive dialogue and contribute positively to a cleaner and sustainable world.
Chongboi Singson, Department of Political Science representing Liberia was adjudged as the “Best Delegate” and K. Shivanand Thakur, Department of Physics representing India as “High Commendation.”

Dr. Suraj Beri, Asst. Professor Department of Sociology compered the event and the welcome address was delivered by Prof. Moamenla Amer, HoD, Department of Political Science followed by opening remarks from Prof. Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, Dean, School of Social Science, and vote of thanks by Ashish Kumar and Dr. Deepak K. Bhaskar. The moderators for the event were Chandan and Isatoli.
