The Ao Kaketshir Telungjem Nagaland University Lumami celebrated Moatsü Festival with Dr Toshiba Echa Rtd. Director of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland as the main speaker at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami on May 4.
In his address, Dr. Toshiba Encha underscored the enduring truth from Ecclesiastes 1:4, emphasizing the cyclical nature of generations and the permanence of the earth amidst rapid global development. As the first Ph.D. scholar in Political Science among the Nagas, he encouraged students to explore new academic avenues like Doctor of Literature (D. Litt.). Encha delineated the generational progression among the Ao Nagas, urging youths to reflect on their roles as citizens of their villages and the broader Naga community. Highlighting historical achievements, he urged research scholars not to dwell solely on past glories but to aspire to greater heights. Emphasizing the importance of retaining cultural identity in the face of globalization, Encha called for attentiveness in safeguarding democraticc principles and addressing global challenges such as climate change and nuclear proliferation. He urged youths to stay informed about global affairs and consider their roles in shaping a safer and more resilient world. Encha invoked biblical passages to underscore the significance of youth participation in times of global upheaval, prompting reflection on their responsibilities in such disorder times.
Limatongzuk Jamir, Secretary of the Care & Support Society in Mokokchung, emphasized the rich significance of the Moatsü Festival in his address. Originating from the times of our forefathers, this festival extends over six days, with each day holding profound cultural importance.

While traditionally spanning six days, today, the Ao community celebrates it over three days. Jamir stressed that the festival is not merely about revelry but about dedicating our lives to the divine and spreading goodwill. He underlined its role in fostering unity and kinship, extending invitations to neighboring villages and tribes, fostering a spirit of love and harmony among all participants.
In the first session program, T. Sentitula Ao and Putusen chaired, I. T. Yanger pronounced the invocation, Talikaba Ao delivered the welcome address, Sentikumla presented the Moatsü Poem, Tiajungla Jamir presented : Mongro Ola and Tsungrem nem tenungsang agutsudi: Ola was presented, Imsutula Jamir delivered the vote of thanks, and Dr. Latonglila Jamir, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, pronounced the benediction.
Opangtemsu Lkr and Alemsangla Pongen hosted the second session, featuring a cultural dance by Ao Sungkum Cultural Club from Mokokchung Village, followed by traditional sports and the Moatsü feast.
