The Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of Mokokchung Municipal Council, Chumlamo Humtsoe, has directed all Wards of Mokokchung Town to conduct mass social work on plastic waste management on World Environment Day 2024 (5th June). He informed that the initiative will target single use plastics (SUPs) such as disposable cutleries, pet bottles, etc, and multi-layered plastics (MLPs) such as food packages, wrappers, etc.

Additionally, the MMC Administrator said to commemorate the World Environment Day, the Additional Secretary & Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, Nagaland, has directed all households, wards, institutions, commercial establishment, market places within Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction to segregate and store all plastic wastes separately for a period of two weeks beginning from 20th May 2024 and deposit it over to the MRF (Material Recovery Facility) located at Aongza Ward on 1st of June 2024.

In this regard, MMC will conduct assessment on the types of plastic wastes collected and the quantity, Humstoe stated.
