Process for ex-gratia already been initiated for speedy compensation: Nagaland Police

The Nagaland Police has responded in a press release today that the process of ex-gratia to the two jawans, who passed away while on election duty in Bihar, has already been initiated for speedy compensation. Meanwhile, the ex gratia for Late Yangtsase Sangtam (amounting to 15 lakhs) has already been credited to his wife’s account.

“The Nagaland Police has always responded to the call of duty be it in the maintenance of law and order and public peace in the State, tackling left wing extremism outside the State or election duty across the country performing such challenging task to the extent of risking their lives. Even in the recently concluded General Parliamentary Election 2024, Nagaland Armed Police (India Reserve) Coys were deployed for election related duty in all the 7 (seven) phases of the GPE-2024 Election,” stated the Nagaland Police in a press release.

During the call of duty, on May 23, Nagaland Police Constable No. 130575, Yangtsase Sangtam, B Coy, 13 NAP (IR) BN after performing Prime Minister’s Election rally duty in Patiala, Punjab had a tragic accidental fall from a building. Sangtam is reported to have succumbed in the early hours of May 25. “The mortal remains of Constable late Yangtsase Sangtam was flown to Nagaland with magnanimous and quick assistance from the Election Commission of India and Punjab Police and laid to rest with full honours befitting policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty,” stated the Nagaland Police.

Acknowledging the supreme sacrifice made and as per the Election Commission of India guidelines for ex-gratia payment to polling personnel/ police personnel in case of death or grievous injuries arising out of and in the course of election duty, an amount of Rs 15,000,00/- (Rupees fifteen lakh only) was credited to the account of the wife of late Constable Yangtsase Sangtam on June 6 by the Government of Punjab.

Subsequently, two more personnel of Nagaland Armed Police (India Reserve Battalion) personnel also lost their lives in Bihar during the GPE- 2024 duty. The process for ex-gratia has already been duly initiated for speedy compensation, informed the NP.

“While loss of life cannot be compensated in terms of money but the Election Commission and Nagaland Police endeavour to do whatever is required to bring succour to the families of the deceased personnel,” it assured.
