Kiphire cooking competition: a rich array of organic Sangtam cuisine on display

Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan Cooking Competition in Kiphire.

The Department of Social Welfare organised a Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan Cooking Competition at Kiphire under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) project. The event was conducted in collaboration with Health and Family Welfare Department & Rural Development/ Nagaland Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), Kiphire.

Four winners were picked up from the various groups who participated in the contest. A group of Anganwadi workers were declared first, followed by Alongti Atpa, another group of Angawadi workers and Asha Workers as second, third and fourth respectively. The winners in the competition were felicitated with cash and certificates.

The District Coordinator said such events would promote the skills of women and empower them in the long run.

The food competition displayed the rich and organic traditional cuisine of Sangtam Nagas. The ladies cooked sumptuous and nutritious indigenous cuisines with local organic ingredients. The dishes included bee larvae, silkworm, carpenter worm, sticky rice, millets and more.

Linnite Kodila Sangtam, District Coordinator of Poshan Abhiyan, told Nagaland Tribune that the purpose of the cooking competition was to encourage women to practise and value the traditional cuisines which are healthy and organic. She added that such events will promote their skills and talents and empower them in the long run.

Local organic ingredients were used to prepare the many dishes.
