Felicitation of PDA Councillors of MMC, Tuli Council, Changtongya Town Council & Mangkolemba Town Council held

A felicitation program of PDA Councilors of MMC, Tuli Town Council Changtongya Town Council and Mangkolemba Town Council was held today at Town Hall, Mokokchung. Sharingain, Speaker, NLA, Imkongmar Longkumer, MLA & Advisor, Temjenmenba MLA & Advisor graced the occasion.

 

Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, addressed the newly elected members of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and town councils, congratulating them on their election. He emphasized that their installation by the Deputy Commissioner marks the beginning of “a new hope, a new future” for the people of Mokokchung District.

Speaker Longkumer highlighted the immense responsibility that comes with being elected under a statutory Act. He stressed the importance of maintaining integrity and dignity, noting that the image carried by each councilor is a reflection of the entire community. He urged the councilors to work with a commitment to the collective good, warning against the destructive attitude of “what is yours is mine, and what is mine is not yours.”

He underlined the necessity of establishing rules of procedure for the functioning and conduct of business, advising the new councilors to adopt these rules to ensure smooth operations. He also emphasized the need for a check and balance mechanism within the system, suggesting the formation of various committees such as a Budget Estimate Committee, Audit Committee, and Social Affairs Committee.

Longkumer encouraged the councilors to refer to the Mokokchung Vision 2040 document for town planning and policy-making, as it contains the aspirations of the people for progress and development. He reminded the councilors that their responsibilities are vast and crucial for representing the grassroots level effectively.

He concluded by urging the councilors to be systematic in their responsibilities, to uphold the continuity of previous efforts, and to introduce new ideas for the betterment of the municipality. He also acknowledged the hard work of all ACs and party workers in achieving this success and encouraged the councilors to continue to work based on the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023 with wise decisions and good interpretations.

In his address, Longkumer reinforced the importance of monthly meetings, state and central sponsored schemes, and the role of the Estimate Committee in ensuring successful budget proposals. He also stressed the need for an auditing committee to ensure accountability and transparency in their operations.

In his short speech, Imkongmar Longkumer, Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, highlighted key principles for effective governance to the NDPP party councilors. He stressed the importance of transparency, urging councilors to embrace accountability in their endeavors. “Listen to the concerns of the people and foster a culture of transparency to strengthen the bond between the people and the government,” he stated.

Longkumer also encouraged councilors to think innovatively and seek new solutions to problems. “Innovation is the key to overcoming today’s challenges and seizing the opportunities of tomorrow,” he said, urging them to learn from other municipalities and remain open to new ideas.

Collaboration was another focal point of his speech. Longkumer emphasized the need for unity and collective effort among councilors. “Work together, support each other, and build strong partnerships with the private sector and community organizations,” he advised, stressing that success comes from a spirit of cooperation

He reminded councilors to never lose sight of the people who supported them, urging them to keep the well-being of their constituents at the forefront of their actions. “By putting people first, you will earn the trust and respect of those you serve,” he concluded, calling for unity to uplift the Mokokchung Municipal Council and its surrounding town counci

Longkumer expressed pride in the NDPP party’s strong leadership, emphasizing its close ties with the national high command in Delhi. He affirmed that councilors, as the nearest link to the grassroots, play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the common people and the government. “You are the bridge for the common people and the government,” he said, highlighting their responsibility to be humble and serve their communities effectively.

Temjenmenba,MLA and Advisor, emphasized the critical role of social media in his brief speech. He urged all party workers involved in social media management to reactivate and reenergize their efforts, highlighting the importance of showcasing the achievements of the PDA government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. He believes that if these achievements are effectively advertised and the government is popularized through social media, public support and guidance will follow.

Addressing the Chairmen, Deputy Chairmen, and Councilors of Mokokchung Town and its subdivisions, Temjenmenba stated that winning an electoral body election and gaining recognition brings power. He stressed the importance of understanding this power and becoming messengers for the people. He warned against the misuse of power, urging leaders to realize that increased knowledge should lead to greater humility. He called on elected councilors to embrace a humble character, become good students, and learn new things every day.

In discussing social issues, Temjenmenba advised that decisions should be made wisely, seeking knowledge and wisdom from God. He highlighted the PDA’s significant achievement of conducting the ULB election under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. He noted that the elected councilors have made history and their actions will be judged by the people. He urged them to take their steps wisely and avoid cause to developmental works.

In a recent welcome address, Mangyangnungba, President of the NDPP Mokokchung Region, emphasized the significance of the National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) as a regional party essential for the Naga people’s independence. He noted that a regional party provides a strong voice for the Nagas, and within 6 to 7 years of its inception, the state has witnessed considerable development.

Highlighting the NDPP’s alliance with the ruling party at the Centre, Mangyangnungba stated that the party combines a national outlook with global aspirations. He asserted that the NDPP is committed not just to slogans but to practical achievements.

Mangyangnungba commended the progress made under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. He particularly praised the successful conduct of the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections after a 20-year hiatus, attributing this success to the passing of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023. He believes this legislation marks a step towards excellence for Nagaland.

Encouraging party workers to support the party’s smooth functioning, he noted the historical achievement of having elected councillors in town councils for the first time. He urged these councillors to remain faithful to the party and to the people who supported them, congratulating them on securing treasury bench positions, including the Chairman and Deputy Chairman roles.

Meyisupong, Vice President of BJP Mokokchung District, in his brief speech, urged all elected councilors to work together for the progress of Mokokchung Town. He emphasized the importance of uplifting not just individual wards but the entire town. Meyisupong called on the 15 PDA councilors to ensure that the other three ward councilors are not left behind. He stated, “A leader without vision is of no use because you will lose the people. Take the burden to make things better for all.”

Chairmen of MMC, Tuli, Changtongya, and Mangkolemba Town Councils also gave brief speeches during the event.

Imkongchuba A serves as the Chairman of Mokokchung Municipal Council, with Lanuakum appointed as the Deputy Chairman. Purtoshi holds the position of Chairman at Tuli Town Council, alongside Alemchuba, as the Deputy Chairman. Temjennungsang serves as the Chairman of Changtongya Town Council, with Talimoa as the Deputy Chairman. Süpongtsüngba is the Chairman of Mangkolemba Town Council, with A. Meren Walling as the Deputy Chairman.
