The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has highlighted the acute shortage of teachers and classrooms in the schools at Mopungchuket village following inspection over the past few weeks.
In a press release issued on August 7, the AKM updated on its engagement in thorough inspection of government schools in Mokokchung district over the past few weeks. To date, the AKM has visited 32 schools to assess school performance, student-to-teacher ratios, and infrastructure conditions, as well as to advocate for quality education and address issues such as dropout rates and teacher shortages.
On August 6, AKM representatives visited schools in the Mopungchuket and Chami villages, where significant issues were identified.
“At Government Primary School Mangkolong, established in 2015, the infrastructure is in a deplorable state. While the school has seen some improvements through community and church contributions, and minor renovations funded by NECTAR, it continues to face severe shortages in both classrooms and teachers,” informed the AKM addressing the needs for immediate upgrades to ensure quality education.

Similarly, the Government Primary School, Mangkolong (Mopungchuket) was found to be in deteriorating condition.
“It has a limited number of classrooms, and it was observed that in one classroom they take two subjects at the same time. Currently, there are only four teachers, each handling more than six subjects per day. Much of the existing infrastructure has been provided by the community, with only minimal government support,” claimed the AKM.
These findings, according to the student body, highlight the urgent need to address the critical shortages at both schools, including upgrades to classrooms and overall facilities.
“Additional teachers should be posted to improve the student-to-teacher ratio in all the schools and ensure effective teaching. AKM calls for immediate action to address these issues and ensure that all the schools are equipped to provide a high standard of education,” appealed the AKM.
It further informed that a comprehensive data will be released after all the schools are inspected where necessary actions will be initiated.
